Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

Welcome Goshen Elementary School Families and Community Partners,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! We are eagerly anticipating a successful and rewarding year. Our administrators and teachers have been busy preparing for the new school year and learning about our new science course of study which will be fully implemented this school year. In the student-centered science classroom, emphasis will be placed upon active and cooperative learning environments where students work together to manipulate variables, make observations, and use prior knowledge to construct reasonable explanations while solving real world problems. Our students will be provided opportunities for creative scientific exploration and engineering design that allow students to connect the classroom to the outside world. For example one second grade science lesson that I observed this past school year was based on the story, The Three Little Pigs. Students were given various materials to build a home that would withstand hurricane force winds. A household hair dryer was used to test the students' structures. It was an amazing science investigation and the students enjoyed it immensely. Only one of the homes was not blown away by the hair dryer. They were also given a second opportunity to rebuild their homes.

The Goshen Elementary School faculty and staff does not take lightly our responsibility of ensuring that your child participates in highly-engaging educational experiences in a safe and nurturing learning environment. We are excited about the new school year and welcome your questions, concerns, and input at any time.
